Colour tones range from golden honey and warm amber through to deep red-brown and dark chocolate streaks, often forming a naturally tiger-striped appearance that makes every blank visually unique.

This dense, durable timber turns beautifully with sharp tools, allowing clean cuts and crisp detail. The interlocked grain adds movement and character to turned forms, making it especially rewarding for experienced turners. Once finished, Gonçalo Alves responds exceptionally well to oils and friction polishes, producing a rich, lustrous surface that really highlights the grain.
