Lacewood is a real show-off timber on the lathe. The moment the tool starts cutting, the famous lace pattern begins to appear — created by large medullary rays that form a natural flecking across the surface. Once shaped and finished, the timber produces a striking “leopard-spot” or shimmering ribbon effect that makes bowls and small projects instantly eye-catching.

Colour ranges from pale pinkish-tan to honey brown, and it deepens beautifully with oil or wax finishes. The figure becomes far more dramatic after sanding and polishing, giving strong chatoyance that moves in the light as the piece is rotated.

From a turning perspective, Lacewood is friendly to work. It cuts smoothly with sharp tools, holds detail well, and sands cleanly. Because of the ray structure, a light finishing cut and fine sanding gives the best surface and really makes the figure pop.
